Youth Hill

Protected nature

Youth Hill is a protected natural landmark – the first of Plovdiv’s hills with such status. Here is why it is preserved and how to respect it.

Status

In 1970, 30 hectares of the south slope were declared a protected area, and in 1995 the whole hill became a natural landmark.

Natural value

The steep rocks and the microclimate of the Maritsa isolate parts of the hill and shelter rare plant and animal species – a valuable natural corner in the city centre.

Responsible visit

Do not pick plants, do not disturb wild animals and take your rubbish away. This keeps the hill protected for the next visitors too.
